Best Hindi story apps and websites for kids, compared fairly
Finding good Hindi stories for children online is harder than it should be. Some apps have Hindi content but few children's titles; others are for children but mostly in English. Here is how five popular options compare for Hindi-speaking families, using only what each service publishes.
Disclosure: This guide is published by Vegastories (Kahani Bharat Ki), which is managed by D&D Technology, Jaipur. Vegastories is one of the options compared. Competitor facts were checked on their official sites on 27 Oct 2026 (as of Oct 2026) and may change; follow the source links before you decide.

What makes a good Hindi story app for a child
A good Hindi story app for a three-year-old is very different from one for a ten-year-old. Younger children need short stories, simple words, pictures and a calm voice. Older children can follow longer plots, read on their own and enjoy mythology, folk tales and mysteries.
- Real Hindi, not just translated menus. Check that the stories themselves are in Hindi and that there are enough of them for your child's age.
- The right format. Read-along helps reading skills, audio is screen-free, and video is best for short shared sessions.
- Indian settings and values. Panchatantra, Jataka, Tenali Rama and Akbar–Birbal stories are familiar to grandparents too, which makes them easy to discuss at home.
- Clear pricing. Know what is free, what is paid and whether there are ads.
- Controls. Child profiles, timers and approved-content modes matter more the younger the child.

StoryWeaver: best free Hindi reading library
StoryWeaver from Pratham Books publishes illustrated stories under the CC BY 4.0 licence, free to read, download, print and translate. In 2021 it reported 38,000+ books in 303 languages, and in a December 2024 interview it was described as having over 64,000 stories in more than 370 languages. It is ideal for reading practice in Hindi and other Indian languages. It is a reading library, so it has less animation and audio than video apps.
Pratilipi: for older readers
Pratilipi is a large storytelling platform with literature, Pratilipi FM audio and comics on one platform. Its homepage does not show a children's section, so it suits teenagers and adults more than young children. If an older child enjoys it, read a few stories first to check they fit your family.
Storytel: screen-free listening
Storytel India costs from ₹149 per month and has a Kids Mode with 30,000+ children's audiobooks and offline downloads across 10+ languages. Its India homepage did not name Hindi children's titles specifically, so search the catalogue for Hindi before subscribing.
YouTube Kids: variety with controls
YouTube Kids has the widest choice of Hindi story videos, but they come from many channels of mixed quality. Use the age setting (Preschool for 4 and under, Younger for 5–8, Older for 9–12), the timer and, for young children, the approved-content-only mode.
Vegastories: original Indian stories to watch, read and hear
Vegastories, which publishes this guide, makes original stories rooted in Indian homes, villages and festivals, alongside classics such as Panchatantra, Tenali Rama and Akbar–Birbal. Children can watch, read along or listen, in Hindi or English. The free plan includes free stories and one child profile; Premium (₹149/month) adds unlimited stories and videos, offline downloads, ad-free viewing and up to three profiles; Family (₹299/month) adds parental controls and up to five profiles. The limits: only Hindi and English, and a much smaller catalogue than StoryWeaver or Storytel.
Our suggestions by age
- Ages 3–5: short picture books read aloud by a parent (StoryWeaver) and a few short animated stories watched together (Vegastories or approved channels on YouTube Kids).
- Ages 6–8: read-along stories to build Hindi reading (StoryWeaver, Vegastories read-along), plus audio stories at bedtime.
- Ages 9–12: longer listening on Storytel, mythology and folk tales, and reading chapter-length stories independently.
Mix formats, keep video sessions short, and talk about the story afterwards. The best app is the one your child enjoys and you trust.
Sources and how we checked
We read each service's official website on 27 Oct 2026 and noted only facts stated there. StoryWeaver's site did not load its content for our checker, so its figures come from its own 2021 blog post and a December 2024 OE Global interview, and are dated accordingly. Prices are in Indian rupees as displayed; they can change. "Not publicly listed" means we could not see the fact on the official page.
